Crypto.com has purchased the AI.com domain for $70 million, setting a new record for the most expensive domain name ever sold, according to the Financial Times. The deal, paid entirely in cryptocurrency to an undisclosed seller, was completed ahead of a planned Super Bowl advertising debut for the site.
Founder and Chief Executive Officer Kris Marszalek told the Financial Times that AI.com will be positioned as a consumer-facing platform offering a personal AI agent capable of handling messaging, app interactions, and stock trading. Marszalek described artificial intelligence as a long-term technological shift that will shape the next decade or more of innovation.
The purchase surpasses previous high-profile domain sales, including CarInsurance.com for $49.7 million in 2010 and Voice.com for $30 million in 2019. Domain broker Larry Fischer, who facilitated the transaction, said assets like AI.com rarely become available and carry unique strategic value.
The acquisition adds to Crypto.com’s history of aggressive branding investments, including a $700 million deal for stadium naming rights. While the commercial return on premium domains remains uncertain, the move underscores growing competition among companies seeking prominent positioning in the AI market.
