Bitdeer Technologies has announced plans to build Norway’s largest artificial intelligence data center, marking a significant step in its transition from cryptocurrency mining to AI infrastructure. The project will be developed through its subsidiary Tydal Data Center AS in partnership with local contractor Data Center Installations AS.
The facility will be designed to support next-generation AI systems powered by Nvidia, including its upcoming Vera Rubin architecture. The project involves converting an existing site to handle high-performance computing workloads required for advanced AI applications.
The move reflects a broader industry shift, as bitcoin miners increasingly repurpose infrastructure to support AI demand. Declining mining profitability and rising operational costs have pushed companies to seek more stable revenue streams through data center services and compute capacity.
Bitdeer has taken additional steps to support this transition, including reducing its exposure to bitcoin holdings and pursuing new financing strategies. The company recently disclosed plans to raise capital through convertible notes, signaling continued investment in AI-related infrastructure.
The Norway project is expected to position Bitdeer as a key player in Europe’s growing AI data center market. It also highlights increasing demand for large-scale compute capacity driven by enterprise and research applications.
