Amazon has expanded its AI-powered assistant Alexa+ to the United Kingdom, marking its first rollout outside North America. The company is offering early access to users through new Echo device purchases, with plans to scale availability to hundreds of thousands of customers in the coming weeks.
Alexa+ introduces more advanced conversational capabilities, including the ability to retain context across devices such as Echo, Fire TV, and the Alexa mobile app. Amazon said future support will extend to web browsers, further broadening accessibility.
The assistant has been tailored for UK users through localized language models and training. Teams in Cambridge applied reinforcement learning and speech modeling techniques to improve understanding of regional accents and phrases.
During early access, Alexa+ is available at no cost. After the program ends, it will be included with Prime subscriptions, while non-Prime users will pay £19.99 per month.
The rollout reflects Amazon’s continued investment in AI-driven consumer products, as it competes to enhance voice assistants with more natural and context-aware interactions.
