Amazon has launched AI Studio at its MGM division to develop artificial intelligence tools designed to speed up movie and TV production, reported by Reuters. Led by entertainment executive Albert Cheng, the small team includes engineers, scientists, and a creative contingent, operating under Amazon founder Jeff Bezos’s “two pizza team” approach. A closed beta program will begin in March, with results expected by May.
The AI tools are intended to streamline tasks such as ensuring character consistency, integrating with industry-standard creative software, and accelerating pre- and post-production workflows. Amazon emphasizes that writers, directors, actors, and designers will remain central to the creative process, with AI serving as a productivity enhancer rather than a replacement.
The initiative addresses rising production costs and aims to enable more content creation for Prime Video. AI Studio leverages Amazon Web Services and multiple large language model providers while prioritizing intellectual property protection. Collaborators include producers Robert Stromberg and Kunal Nayyar, and former Pixar animator Colin Brady. The studio’s work on the series “House of David” demonstrates early applications of AI in filmmaking.
