Amazon has indicated plans to launch a content marketplace where publishers can sell materials to companies offering artificial intelligence products, according to The Information. The initiative is linked to Amazon Web Services’ AI offerings, including Bedrock and Quick Suite, and aims to provide publishers with new revenue channels.
The report comes amid ongoing negotiations between publishers and AI firms over licensing terms for online content used in model training or AI-generated outputs. Publishers are seeking usage-based fees tied to the frequency and scale of content consumption.
An Amazon spokesperson declined to comment on the report, noting only that the company maintains long-standing relationships with publishers and continues to innovate.
The move follows Microsoft’s recent announcement of a Publisher Content Marketplace, which allows publishers to set licensing terms for AI usage. The marketplace could complement Amazon’s broader AI efforts, including its recently announced AI Studio, which aims to accelerate movie and TV production while keeping creators involved at every stage.
