ElevenLabs has launched the Iconic Voice Marketplace, an online platform that allows companies to license AI-generated voices of famous figures for content, advertising, and storytelling projects. The AI audio startup says the marketplace is designed to address ethical and legal concerns surrounding synthetic voice use by ensuring a “consent-based, performer-first” approach.

The system connects brands with the rights holders of specific voices, while ElevenLabs acts as the intermediary to formalize licensing and synthesize the approved voices. Only verified and authorized talent or intellectual property owners can participate, guaranteeing that each replicated voice is used with permission and fair compensation.

The current roster features 28 voices, including Michael Caine, Judy Garland, Maya Angelou, Mark Twain, Alan Turing, and J. Robert Oppenheimer. Some were created using voice cloning, while others were generated from archival recordings. Caine, one of the living participants, praised the initiative, saying it helps “amplify voices” and “open doors for new storytellers.”

ElevenLabs positions the marketplace as a step toward an ethical framework for AI audio, offering creators and brands access to iconic voices while safeguarding performer rights.
