OpenAI has launched a new set of personal finance tools for ChatGPT Pro subscribers in the United States, expanding the chatbot’s capabilities into budgeting, portfolio analysis, and financial planning.

The feature, currently available in preview on the web and iOS, allows users to connect financial accounts directly to ChatGPT through Plaid, a financial data connectivity platform. OpenAI said the integration supports more than 12,000 financial institutions, including Chase, Fidelity, Schwab, Robinhood, American Express, and Capital One.

Once connected, users can access dashboards showing portfolio performance, spending trends, subscriptions, and upcoming payments. The tools also allow conversational financial analysis through natural language prompts inside ChatGPT. Users can ask questions such as whether their spending patterns have changed recently or request long-term planning guidance for goals like buying a home.

OpenAI said more than 200 million users already ask finance-related questions to ChatGPT every month. The company added that its GPT-5.5 model has improved contextual reasoning capabilities that are particularly useful for handling personal finance queries and planning tasks.

The company partnered with financial experts to develop internal benchmarks aimed at improving the model’s performance on financial reasoning tasks. OpenAI also said it plans to integrate support for Intuit in the future, which could enable more advanced analysis related to taxes, credit approvals, and investment scenarios.

The release follows OpenAI’s acquisition of the team behind personal finance startup Hiro in April. Hiro was backed by firms including Ribbit Capital, General Catalyst, and Restive. OpenAI said the team’s financial expertise contributed to the launch of the new product, though it did not specify how much of the system was directly developed by the acquired startup.

Users can access the feature through the ChatGPT sidebar under the new “Finances” section or by using prompts such as “@Finances, connect my accounts.” OpenAI said connected financial data can be removed through account settings, with synced information deleted from ChatGPT within 30 days after disconnection. Users can also review and delete financial memory data stored by the assistant.
