Udemy said it has launched a new integration with OpenAI that brings its skills training platform directly into ChatGPT through a dedicated app. The integration allows users to access Udemy’s course content and learning tools without leaving the ChatGPT interface, marking a shift from traditional AI tutoring toward structured, credential-oriented education.

The company said the app combines its learning ecosystem of more than 290,000 courses taught by roughly 90,000 instructors with ChatGPT’s conversational interface. Udemy positions the integration as an extension of its reskilling operating system, covering skill discovery, acquisition, mastery, validation, and acceleration within AI-driven conversations.

Unlike large language model tutoring tools that focus on answering individual questions, Udemy said the ChatGPT app delivers expert-curated courses, assessments, and hands-on labs. The goal is to help users build verified skills rather than rely on ad hoc explanations generated by an AI model.

Learning is one of the most common use cases for ChatGPT, which OpenAI says serves about 800 million weekly active users. By embedding its content into ChatGPT, Udemy aims to reduce friction in course discovery and engagement, positioning structured learning as a natural extension of workplace and professional conversations.

Features Target Discovery, Engagement, and Monetization

The integration introduces several features designed to keep users inside ChatGPT while interacting with Udemy content. ChatGPT can surface relevant Udemy courses during conversations when it detects a learning opportunity, effectively turning the AI assistant into a course discovery channel.

Users can watch Udemy course videos directly within the chat interface and ask questions about the material in real time. The app also provides pathways to enroll in full courses on Udemy, allowing users to move from exploration to paid enrollment without starting a separate search. Some content can be browsed without logging in, which lowers barriers to discovery.

For existing Udemy customers, the integration adds learning journey tracking, including skill gap analysis, progress milestones, and visibility into long-term development paths. These features align with Udemy’s broader strategy of selling learning subscriptions and enterprise training tools rather than individual courses alone.

OpenAI is making the Udemy app available to logged-in ChatGPT users across Free, Go, Plus, and Pro plans. The rollout initially supports English, with subtitles available, and is positioned as an early step toward broader language support.

Udemy executives framed the launch as part of a longer-term push to embed professional learning directly into daily workflows. By placing its content inside ChatGPT, Udemy gains access to one of the largest AI user bases globally while reinforcing the distinction between structured education platforms and general-purpose AI assistants.

For investors, the integration highlights Udemy’s effort to stay relevant as generative AI reshapes online learning. The near-term impact will depend on whether ChatGPT-driven discovery leads to higher engagement, improved conversion to paid courses, and stronger retention across Udemy’s subscription offerings.
