T-Mobile unveiled Live Translation — the world’s first real-time agentic AI platform integrated directly into a cellular network. The new service enables instantaneous translation during phone calls in over 50 languages without requiring new devices, subscriptions, or third-party apps.

“Some of the biggest barriers wireless customers face are the simplest ones — like being able to understand each other,” said T-Mobile CEO Srini Gopalan. “By bringing real-time AI directly into our network, we’re delivering more than connectivity — turning conversations into community.”

The network-based integration sets Live Translation apart from conventional AI translation services, which often require specific devices, apps, or subscriptions, and can route sensitive data through external servers. Instead, T-Mobile leverages its 5G Advanced infrastructure to run AI services natively, ensuring speed, privacy, and reliability.

Addressing Real-World Needs

Live Translation is particularly relevant in the U.S., where an estimated 60 million people live in multilingual households. The technology allows family members, friends, and businesses to communicate seamlessly across languages. T-Mobile’s CEO emphasized the service’s utility for travelers, customer service, and everyday conversations, highlighting that the service works even if only one participant is on the T-Mobile network.

The service operates across a wide range of devices, from flip phones to modern smartphones, with translation activating instantly once a call begins. “Live Translation shows what’s possible when you rethink the role of a wireless provider,” said John Saw, T-Mobile President of Technology & CTO.

Beta Program and Availability

T-Mobile opened beta registration today, with selected users gaining access this spring. Participants can activate the service by dialing 87, enabling translation during calls at no cost throughout the beta period. The company plans a full commercial launch later this year, making the service available to millions of customers.

Strategic Significance

By embedding AI directly into its network, T-Mobile positions itself as a pioneer in network-native AI services. This innovation builds on years of investment in 5G infrastructure and reflects the company’s focus on delivering customer-centric benefits.

With Live Translation, T-Mobile is not only breaking language barriers but also establishing a new paradigm in how wireless providers deliver advanced AI services at scale. The initiative underscores the growing intersection of AI and telecommunications, demonstrating the potential for network-integrated intelligence to redefine everyday experiences.
